Sample # 3

Dear...,

I am at a loss of words to express how deeply hurt and sorry I am for you. Your daughter was loved by all. I am so lucky that I knew her and that I have so many fond memories of us together. Your daughter may have left us today, but her spirit will always be alive through her memories.

Love,

When offering condolences, never compare the loss to something that you have suffered or you should not say things like, "You will soon have another child", "Whatever happens, happens for the best" or "It's good that you have other children". Such insensitive statements on your part, can further add to the agony of the parents and hence, should be avoided.
Instead, you should always look for ways to make the parents comfortable. You should offer to help them in whichever way you can. Sending them cooked meals, picking their children from school, doing household shopping for them for a few days - these are some of the things that you can do for the grieving parents and make their life a little better.
Along with the words, small gestures like giving the parents a hug, holding their hand and sending them flowers, will mean a lot to them. Through your words and actions, make the parents feel that they are not alone and they can always count on your support. After all, this is what friends and family are for, right?
