Meaning of the Longest Word in the English Language

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is a disease which is caused as a result of over exposure to ultra microscopic silico dust. The inhalation of silicone dust which is found near volcanoes is a major cause of this disease. There are 4 types of this disease, namely, acute, chronic, asymptomatic, and accelerated.
Out of these, the chronic form is commonly found and develops after getting exposed to silica dust for over 20 years. The symptoms of this disease include: common cold, fast breathing, sore throat, major loss of appetite, chest pain, severe coughing, and increased chances of getting infected by tuberculosis.
When the silica dust near a volcanic area is inhaled by humans, it implants itself in the tiny air sacs and the ducts of the lungs. This is the place where carbon dioxide and oxygen are substituted. In response to this infection, the white blood cells discharge a series of cytokines. These cytokines stimulate the fibroblasts, which results in fibrosis.
A cure for this disease is very rare. But, here are some preventive measures:
  • Take cough syrups if you see any of the symptoms.
  • Try going for physiotherapy to cure the chest pain.
  • Take anti-tubercular agents so that tuberculosis doesn't develop.
  • In extreme cases, lung transplantation might help although it is very dangerous and involves multiple risks.

The Controversy

There is still debate about whether Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis does exist as an official word.
