Ideas to Write a Fiction Story

Shalu Bhatti
Writing is creative, but it is impossible to be creative for a writer, without ideas! Here are some interesting ideas that can help you create a whole new collection of your own fiction stories.
"Fiction writing is great. You can make up almost anything." ― Ivana Trump
How truly said, the best job for creative writers, is nothing but fiction writing! You can expand all horizons and write absolutely anything, with words so powerful and convincing, that fiction appears more believable than truth.
Take Stephanie Myers or J.K. Rowling for example. With words so powerful and the flow of writing so intact, they have convinced us all to believe in vampires, werewolves, and wizards. When it comes to writing a good fiction story, ideas play a vital role.
People and activities in the world inspire a writer to mix his observations with his creative thoughts and write something which mesmerizes the readers, and leave them absolutely stunned.

Some Helpful Ideas for a Creative Start

A successful fiction writer is the one who not only uses his writing and observation skills, but also mixes them up with his own imaginative thoughts, to create content that has never been thought of before! We all knew about magic and wizards, but who thought of the game of Quidditch? Here are some ideas to give you a creative start.

For the Science Geeks

Speaking of scientific ideas, you need to think of something which has an element of shock and surprise. You can write and think absolutely anything, but it has to be something which has not been thought of, yet.
Concepts such as time machines, robots, and alien attacks have become too monotonous, unless you come up with a twist in the existing concept, or make the storyline way too catchy. You can try to build on the following concepts.
  • What if there was a way to become mortal, how would life be then? What if it was available only to the rich and powerful?
  • What if you could interpret the aura that each and every person emits? How would people perceive things then, and how would it impact the world?
  • What if a chip was put in a human body which gives all your access to the government, including a detailed description of our thoughts and actions.
  • How would there be life on earth without the ozone layer and trees? What would man do?

For the Realistic Enthusiasts

"Fiction was invented the day Jonas arrived home and told his wife that he was three days late because he had been swallowed by a whale." ― Gabriel Garcia Marquez
The best thing about realistic ideas is that you can write absolutely anything that you observe in the world. This way, you can get inspiration to write by observing the things around you.
As quoted by Jim Rohn, "The reason that fiction is more interesting than any other form of literature, to those who really like to study people, is that in fiction the author can really tell the truth without humiliating himself." You can get an amazing storyline by observing the little things around you.
A few examples for the same would be -

You live in an old house and there is a secret opening to another world through your attic.

Each and everything in your life gives you a picture of your past life. How? Build a story.
Your dreams can also help you get the perfect idea. Think of a dream you remember the most, be it good or bad, and create a story indicating the significance behind it.
Looking at the huge trees around you, what do you think? These trees might be hundreds of years old and have witnessed so many things and changes in the world. What if they could actually speak and tell you of those instances? What if they knew what the future would be like? What if they could tell you how to stop the end of the world?
Apart from building an interesting concept, another most important thing in fiction writing is creating characters in a story, which is possible only when you are clear about the concept and idea. Start pondering over the aforementioned cues, mix them with your imagination, and come up with a story that can leave the readers awestruck. All the best!
